About this study
PEAK is an acronym for Panitumumab Efficacy in combination with
mFOLFOX6 Against bevacizumab
plus mFOLFOX6 in mCRC subjects with wild-type KRAS tumors.
The PEAK Study compares the investigational use of panitumumab in combination with chemotherapy against Avastin® (bevacizumab) in combination with chemotherapy (mFOLFOX6) for initial (first-line) treatment of advanced (metastatic) colorectal cancer. The primary goal of the study is to learn whether when combined with chemotherapy, the panitumumab investigational regimen will delay the progression of colorectal cancer for a longer period of time than the Avastin® in combination with chemotherapy treatment regimen.
Panitumumab is currently not approved for first-line or second-line treatment of advanced mCRC.
Avastin® is the brand name for bevacizumab. Avastin® is a monoclonal antibody that works by attaching to and inhibiting the action of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). VEGF is a substance that binds to certain cells to stimulate new blood vessel formation. Avastin® has been approved by the FDA in combination with a specific type of chemotherapy (intravenous 5-fluorouracil [5-FU]-based chemotherapy) for first- or second-line treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer.
